Pongal is a harvest festival that is celebrated in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu. This festival is celebrated for four days and is amongst the most important and popular festivals for Hindus. The festival got its name from a Tamil word which means ‘to boil’ and lies in the month of Thai. This is the season when crops like cereals, rice, turmeric, sugar cane, etc are harvested, and hence the festival is celebrated as the thanksgiving to nature.
